People Power Challenge
2011 - 2012

Partners in Project Green launched
the People Power Challenge with a simple idea – to give companies a fun and
exciting way to engage their staff in improved environmental performance.
Throughout the year long challenge participating companies compete in three
four-month long sub-challenges for cash prizes and bragging rights. The challenges were:
- Challenge 1 – Waste Reduction
(Nov. 1, 2011 – Feb. 29, 2012)
- Challenge 2 – Energy Efficiency
(March 1 – June 30, 2012)
- Challenge 3 – Water Conservation
(July 2 – October 18, 2012)
BNC swept all three
challenges. |

Corporate Stewardship Award recognizes companies that promote energy efficiency at the corporate level,
such as the creation and engagement of an energy management team, the
development of a corporate energy management plan or policy, or the
implementation of a formalized management system.
All nominated energy efficiency
projects or initiatives are evaluated by a panel of judges against the
following four criteria:
- improved energy intensity – reduced energy use per
unit of production
- innovation – creativity and ingenuity
- potential for broader use – transferability to other
companies or industry sectors
- contribution to the environment – reduction in
greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and improvement in environmental
sustainability
Other winners in the 2011 awards group included
Arcellor-Mittal Dofasco, Cascades GIE Inc., IBM Canada, and Kraft Foods
(Cadbury division).
Broan-Nuntone
Canada is only the second case in the history of these awards where one site
was honoured in two consecutive opportunities

Integrated Energy Efficiency Strategy Award – recognizes companies that improve energy efficiency at a facility orcompany-wide level through a range of initiatives as a result of an integrated strategy.
